Tropical Storm Watch for St. Clair County: Prepare for Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for St. Clair County, including Pell City and Moody, with residents urged to prepare for hazardous winds up to 50 mph and potential moderate flooding from 1-3 inches of rain, according to the NWS.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for St. Clair County, including Pell City and Moody, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, effective from October 9 at 1:19 AM CDT until 9:30 AM UTC.
Residents should prepare for hazardous winds of equivalent tropical storm force. Peak wind gusts of 25-35 mph, potentially reaching 50 mph, are expected. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break, with some trees potentially uprooted. Scattered power and communications outages are also anticipated. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, and preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. The NWS forecasts 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, posing a significant threat for moderate flooding. Moderate rainfall flooding may necessitate evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and small streams and creeks may flood. Floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Emergency plans should account for the potential of moderate flooding.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed of the latest forecast changes.
