St. Clair County, including Pell City and Moody, is now under a Tropical Storm Watch, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the watch today, October 8, at 7:10 PM CDT. This watch is set to expire on October 9 at 3:15 AM UTC.

Residents should plan for hazardous winds of equivalent tropical storm force, with peak gusts up to 45 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible, especially on bridges.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain forecast, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding is anticipated, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and small streams could overflow. Consider protective actions if you are in a flood-prone area. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The tornado threat is currently unfavorable, and tornadoes are not expected. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
