A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Harrison, including Gulfport, Biloxi, Pass Christian, and Long Beach, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans, LA, issued the warning today, October 9, at 4:00 PM CDT. This warning indicates severe conditions are expected, with potential threats to life and property.
Residents in affected areas must act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin. Peak winds are forecast at 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. Potential impacts include limited damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, large tree limbs breaking, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are expected on bridges and elevated roadways due to debris. Property protection efforts should be underway.
A life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. Localized flooding from heavy rain is also possible; heed any flood watches and warnings.
