Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Southern Harrison County
Southern Harrison County is under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning with life-threatening 3-5 feet of water possible; residents must shelter against surge and complete preparations for hazardous winds by tonight.
Southern Harrison County residents, including Gulfport, Biloxi, Pass Christian, and Long Beach, must shelter against life-threatening storm surge. The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued an Extreme Storm Surge Warning effective October 9 at 4:00 PM CDT, warning of potential storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground through Saturday morning.
Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. Potential impacts from the main surge event are unfolding now.
Wind gusts up to 45 mph are expected, with potential for hazardous winds of 39-57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway, and preparations for limited wind damage should be completed now. Expect scattered power outages and potential damage to light structures.
