Junior wide receiver Witten Vandagriff took the field for Sunlake's varsity football team last Friday against Bayshore. The game, played under the Friday night lights in Wesley Chapel, saw Vandagriff overcome initial nerves to embrace the experience.

"It was very fun. At first, I was nervous, but it was very fun," Vandagriff said. "We almost came up with a win, but we’ll keep getting better." He emphasized his drive to contribute, stating, "I gotta make a play. I gotta help my team."

A highlight for Vandagriff was watching teammate Jwuan Jeffrey, or JJ, turn a 10-yard reception into a 40-yard touchdown. The teams exchanged scores throughout the contest, with Bayshore ultimately securing the victory.

Despite the loss, Vandagriff views the game as a learning opportunity. He has set a personal goal of 500 receiving yards for the season and plans to work with his teammates to improve their performance in upcoming matchups.
