For freshman Logan Maldonado, his first high school pep rally at Sunlake High School was a departure from middle school traditions. The gymnasium buzzed with energy, illuminated by bright lights and filled with the cheers of his classmates, marking a significant moment in his high school journey.

Maldonado, a freshman and JV football player, described the experience as “very chaotic but in a good way.” He noted the stark contrast to Rushe Middle School, where pep rallies were less elaborate. “The first thing I noticed was the lights off and the neon lights,” Maldonado said. “We had pep rallies at Rushe, but it definitely wasn’t like this.”

A highlight for Maldonado was the opportunity to run onto the gym floor with the football team. The rally also featured games and activities designed to engage students, with Maldonado naming the “wig snatching game” as his favorite and a memorable moment of the event.

With three more years of high school ahead, Maldonado's first pep rally experience offered a clear contrast between middle school and high school traditions, allowing him to witness and participate in school spirit alongside his peers and teammates.
