Egans Creek Greenway
A protected area of over 300 acres that runs north to south along Ron Sapp Egans Creek, the Greenway was opened for public use in the summer of 2000 as an undeveloped park for passive recreational use. Its grass-covered roads serve as a network of trails that are suitable for walking and bicycling, and its environment exhibits a variety of natural wildlife and vegetation. Local wildlife, such as alligators, snakes, marsh rabbits, and many birds, may be enjoyed from a distance. Benches and interpretive displays are located throughout the Greenway, and restrooms are available at the Nature Pavilion, located at the Greenway entrance behind the Atlantic Recreation Center on Atlantic Avenue. Ron Sapp Egans Creek Greenway brochures (with trails maps) are available at the Atlantic Recreation Center office and trailheads at Atlantic Avenue, Jasmine Street, and Sadler Road; or download one here: Egans Creek Greenway brochure and trails map Egans Creek Greenway brochure and trails map (text-only version) Accessibility If you would like to visit the Greenway and require assistance under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), please contact Patricia Haas by email at [email protected]. The Greenway may be accessed from: Behind the Atlantic Recreation Center at 2500 Atlantic Avenue Jasmine Street - two entrances (between Citrona Drive and Fletcher Avenue on Jasmine) Citrona Drive from the extensions of Beech Street and Hickory Street Sadler Road, behind the Residence Inn (2301 Sadler Road) Parking is available in the Atlantic Recreation Center parking lot; along the right-of-way on Jasmine Street; and behind the Residence Inn on Sadler Road.

Rules
The park is open from sunrise to sundown. No overnight use. No motorized vehicles, fireworks, alcohol, hazardous materials, or fires are permitted. Dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed and their waste is not left on the trails. Fishing is permitted from bridges, but lines must be attended at all times and may not be tied off to bridge structures. Traps are prohibited. Do not harass wildlife: Hunting is prohibited. Don't approach too closely (defensive action from the animal may result!) Don't chase Don't allow your pet(s) to chase Don't throw objects Don't feed Tours and other activities for hire are not permitted without prior notice and an approved written agreement with the City of Fernandina Beach. For your safety and to avoid unnecessary disturbance of wildlife and habitat, please stay on the trails at all times. Scoop the Poop! Scooping your pooch's poop isn't just a courtesy to your neighbors, it's good for the environment! Bring it - Make sure you have a plastic bag with you on every walk. Bag it - Scoop the poop every time. Trash it - Dispose of pet waste in the trash or flush it (without the bag). Dog feces contains more intestinal bacteria than humans, cows, and almost any wild animal. Dog waste washes into storm drains and ditches. From there it heads straight to your local stream, river, or beach. The EPA reports that 2-3 days' worth of pet waste from just 100 dogs in a 20 square mile watershed can contribute enough bacteria to close a waterway to swimming and shell fishing. (US EPA, 1993)
