Oxbridge Academy Softball Thunderwolves Receive Division 2A State Championship Rings

The Oxbridge Academy Thunderwolves softball team received their state championship rings this week, celebrating their Division 2A softball title won earlier this year. The team was honored during a halftime ring ceremony at a home football game. The rings feature diamonds and the school's colors.

Senior pitcher Aubrey Vital and player Riley Lyons formed a key pitcher and catcher unit throughout the season. Their communication proved critical during games, especially against Cornerstone Charter Academy in the state championship.

Lyons described the in-game communication, stating, "She's telling me what's working, what's not working in between innings. We have a lefty batter, we have a different approach than with the righty." This strategic exchange helped the team navigate challenging situations.

In the state championship game against Cornerstone Charter Academy, the Thunderwolves were tied 1-1 heading into the seventh inning. Lyons stepped up to bat with runners on first and second. Her RBI hit sparked a four-run seventh inning, leading Oxbridge Academy to a 5-1 victory.

Lyons reflected on the moment, saying, "I was just thinking, barrel through the zone." She added, "That was a really fun one. I remember being on base and the whole dugout, like, erupting after that hit."

The team's success stemmed from preparation and trust in their coaches. The coaches did not put pressure on the team in the final games, as the goal of reaching states was established early in the season.

The rings serve as a lasting memory of the team's united effort and their journey to becoming state champions.
