Home Advocacy Legislative Priorities The location of our Washington, D.C., office allows us to monitor all legislation affecting veterans, alert VFW membership to key legislation under consideration and to actively lobby Congress and the administration on veterans' issues. National Legislative Service establishes the VFW's legislative priorities and advocates on veterans' behalf. By testifying at congressional committee hearings and interacting with congressional members, the VFW has played an instrumental role in nearly every piece of veterans' legislation passed since the beginning of the 20th century. Everything we do on Capitol Hill is with the VFW’s Priority Goals and veterans' well-being in mind. With the strength of the more than 1.3 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary, our voice on Capitol Hill cannot be ignored! Among the VFW's most recent and important legislative victories was expanding college education benefits for military service members with the signing of the Forever GI Bill, and ensuring America's service members and veterans receive the care they deserve - whenever and wherever they need it - by passing the VA MISSION Act. Our 2026 Priority Goals: Budget To fully fund relevant programs for veterans, service members and their families, Congress must: Hold leaders accountable to “Honor the Contract” and uphold their end of the military service contract by opposing any effort to cut or reduce veteran benefits. Ensure sufficient, timely appropriations and proper budget oversight for VA. Authorize VA to receive reimbursements from TRICARE and Medicare. Never reduce one veteran’s benefits to pay for another. Modernize and reform VA and DOD programs that do not meet the needs of service members, veterans and families. Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs To ensure veterans and their survivors have timely access to earned benefits, Congress and VA must: Implement the VFW’s recommendations to improve the VA disability claims process, specifically appeals, digital claims, DBQs and disability examinations. Crack down on unaccredited claims consultants known as Claim Sharks. Study all toxic and environmental exposures, and implement programs to ensure health care and benefits are provided to all exposed service members and veterans. Increase Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, burial allowances and other benefits for survivors. Improve the accuracy of disability compensation claims related to military sexual trauma. Education, Employment and Transition Assistance To ensure veterans succeed after leaving military service, Congress, VA, DOD and DOL must: Improve education benefits through modernized student housing and supply allowances, child care stipends, parity for National Guard and Reserve members and elimination of delimiting dates. Improve the delivery of the Veteran Readiness and Employment program to include administrative support for counselors and standardized training. Ensure parity of VA and DOD education programs with other federal programs. Expand small business, hiring preference, tax incentives and entrepreneurship resources for veterans and military spouses. Increase funding for HUD-VASH vouchers, grant and per diem payments and pilot programs to combat veteran homelessness. Conduct oversight of VA’s Transition Assistance Program to ensure compliance with the law, and require the inclusion of accredited claims representatives. Protect the VA Home Loan Guaranty program and expand it to the reserve components. Eliminate red tape preventing effective use of education and employment benefits. Health Care To ensure service members and veterans receive timely access to high-quality health care without increasing cost shares, Congress, VA and DOD must: Eliminate service member and veteran suicide. Improve the coordination of community care at VA, including CHAMPVA and the Foreign Medical Program. Strengthen care and research for mental health, blast overpressure and traumatic brain injuries. Research the efficacy of alternative therapies for PTSD. Improve oversight of Vet Centers to ensure adequate staffing, resources and funding. Enhance programs and services for women and underserved veterans. Preserve the integrity of TRICARE. Properly implement VA and DOD health IT systems. Expand nursing home eligibility and long-term care options. Military Readiness To maintain a strong and ready all-volunteer force capable of protecting America interests, Congress and DOD must: Enhance quality of life and health care programs that allow service members to focus on the mission. Ensure equity of benefits for reserve component service members. End the military retirement pay and VA disability compensation offset. Provide benefits enrollment for all transitioning service members. Eliminate sexual assault and harassment from the military. Increase military base pay so that it is competitive with relevant civilian pay. Ensure that military housing and work spaces are safe and modern. Eliminate food insecurity in the military. National Security, Foreign Affairs and POW/MIA To fully support the all-volunteer force, protect our nation’s citizens and defend American interests around the world, Congress and DOD must: Ensure DPAA is fully funded to perform its personnel recovery mission. Deter threats to our national security by supporting our allies in Ukraine, Israel, Korea and Taiwan. Ensure all service members who served in harm’s way — to include foreign nationals, translators and allies — receive the recognition, care and benefits they may have earned. Troop Support

We're here supporting our troops day in and day out. Our members offer support to the military community in many different ways, whether that means helping military families get through long deployments or hosting send-off and welcome home events. The VFW knows how important troop support is because all of our members have been there. Military Appreciation Program (MAP) Our Military Appreciation Program (MAP) is the outstretched hand between the local VFW and military community, offering support around the world. Since 2005, MAP has sponsored events supporting more than 3.4 million service members and their families. A large part of MAP is the Adopt-a-Unit program, providing VFW Posts the opportunity to adopt hundreds of military units around the world. Adopt-a-Unit's goal is to develop supportive relationships with units before, during and after deployments to help deliver the vast network of resources the VFW has available to the military. If you are a service member or a Family Readiness Group leader interested in participating in this program, contact the MAP office today. The MAP Grant application can be found on the National Programs Dashboard. The application period is now open for the 2026-2027 MAP grants period. An avid sportsman, Patronis enjoys spending time outdoors and participating in a variety of sporting activities. Patronis attended Gulf Coast State College. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Robert Boos and the reappointment of Robert Stern to the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Robert Boos Boos is the Co-Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Boos Development Group, Inc. Active in his community, he is a member of The Florida Council of 100 and a long-standing member of the Young Presidents' Organization and the International Council of Shopping Centers. Boos earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Florida State University and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of South Florida. Robert Stern Stern is a Shareholder at Trenam Law. Active in his community, he has served as a member of the University of Florida Board of Trustees, the Florida Postsecondary Education Planning Commission, and the Tampa Civil Service Board. Stern earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and his juris doctor from the University of Florida. These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Peter Crocitto, Jo Culberson, Nan Jeffcoat, and David Vincent and the reappointment of Christopher Nebbeling, James “Randy” Reaves, and Edgar Rosa to the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. Peter Crocitto Crocitto is the Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer at Keiser University. Active in his community, he has served as a member of the Commission for Independent Education, the Career College Association, and the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administration. Crocitto earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fort Lauderdale College and his master’s degree in business administration from the New York Institute of Technology. Jo Culberson Culberson is the Director of the Northwest Florida State College Public Safety Training Center. Previously, she served as the Law Enforcement Training Coordinator and Sergeant of Police at Northwest Florida State College and a Deputy Sheriff and School Resource Officer for the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. Culberson earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of West Florida. Nan Jeffcoat Jeffcoat is a Warden for the Florida Department of Corrections. Previously, she served as an Assistant Warden for the Florida Department of Corrections and a Victim Advocate for the Eighth Circuit State Attorney’s Office. Jeffcoat earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Florida. David Vincent Vincent is the Citrus County Sheriff. Active in his community, he is a member of the YMCA of the Suncoast Board of Directors and is a Graduate of the FBI National Academy. Vincent earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Florida Gulf Coast University. Christopher Nebbeling Nebbeling is a Patrol Officer, Instructor, and Range Master with the West Palm Beach Police Department. He is a Florida Department of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor, Master Taser Instructor, Driving Instructor, and Defensive Tactics Instructor. A veteran of the United States Army, Nebbeling earned his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Phoenix. James “Randy” Reaves Reaves is a Sergeant with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. He has been in law enforcement for over 20 years and currently serves as the President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5-30 in Jacksonville. Reaves earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Auburn University. Edgar Rosa Rosa is a Correctional Sergeant with the Orange County Corrections Department. He is currently the President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 86 where he has been a member since 2004. Rosa earned a Corrections Officer Certification from Valencia College.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the reappointment of Stacy Angier, Ray Berry, and Jennifer Nicole to the North Broward Hospital District. Stacy Angier Angier is the Owner of A Plus Educational Consultants. Additionally, she serves as a part-time Finance Person for Ocean Fresh Seafood of Central Florida and as a consultant for Precious Promise Academy and Christian Life Academy. Active in her community, Angier has served as a member of the League of Christian Schools Accreditation Commission and the Broward Health Foundation Board of Directors. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Miami Christian College and her master’s degree from Oral Roberts University. Ray Berry Berry is the Founder and Chairman of Health Business Solutions. Active in his community, he serves on the Habitat for Humanity of Broward Board and previously served as the Chair of the Jack and Jill Children’s Center, the Vice Chair of the Joe DiMaggio Foundation Board, and the Health Care Chair of the Broward Workshop. Berry earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida. Jennifer Nicole Nicole is a Shareholder at Gunster Yoakley. Active in her community, she previously served as a member of the Broward County Housing Authority. Nicole earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Miami and her juris doctor from the University of Virginia.

Robert Page Page is the Senior Vice President of SouthState Bank. Active in his community, he is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents and a former member of the Independent Community Bankers of America Board of Directors. Page earned his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Florida. Lisa Denning Tate, DNP Denning Tate is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for Malcolm Randall Veterans Hospital. Active in her community, she is a member of the American and Florida Associations of Nurse Anesthetists. Denning Tate earned her bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, her master’s degree in health sciences administration, and her master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Francis, her master’s degree in nursing anesthesiology from Bradley University, and her doctorate in anesthesiology from Florida International University. Dr. Nancy Hardt Dr. Hardt is currently retired and previously served as a Professor at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine. Active in her community, she has served as a member of the Rotary Club of Gainesville Board of Directors. Dr. Hardt earned her bachelor’s degree from Sweet Briar College and her Doctor of Medicine degree from Loyola University. Charles “Lee” Pinkoson Pinkoson is currently retired. He has served on numerous boards including the Board of Governors of the State University System, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Jacksonville Port Authority. First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission Jeff Aaron, of Tallahassee, is a Founding Shareholder at DownsAaron. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida Gulf Coast University and his juris doctor from the University of Florida. Aaron is appointed for a term ending July 1, 2030. Jason Hilborn, of Tallahassee, is a Deputy Attorney General for the Florida Office of the Attorney General. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and his juris doctor from Harvard Law School. Hilborn is appointed from a list of nominees recommended by the Florida Bar for a term ending July 1, 2030. Lazaro Fields, of Tallahassee, is a Partner at Continental P.L.L.C. He earned both his bachelor’s degree and his juris doctor from Florida State University. Fields is appointed from a list of nominees recommended by the Florida Bar for a term ending July 1, 2030. Benjamin Gibson, of Tallahassee, is a Partner at Shutts & Bowen L.L.P. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and his juris doctor from Florida State University. Gibson is appointed for a term ending July 1, 2027.

Brad Friedman Friedman is the President and Owner of Artisan Foods Catering, Inc. Active in his community, he has served as a member of the James Beard Foundation. Friedman attended Broward College. Douglas Harrison Harrison is the General Counsel for Blue Mountain Analytics, LLC. Active in his community, he is a member of the Meadow Pines Community Development District Board of Supervisors and is the recipient of the 2019 Hall of Fame Distinguished Alumni Award from the Broward Education Foundation. Harrison earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and his juris doctor from the University of Florida. Steven Harvey Harvey is the Assistant Dean of Operations and Administration at Nova Southeastern University. He has over 30 years of educator and management experience at Nova Southeastern University. Harvey earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Nova Southeastern University. Diana Taub Taub is a Self-employed Consultant in the areas of Advertising, Design, Education, and Insurance. Active in her community, she is a member of the Florida Association of School Administrators and the National Association of Secondary School Administrators.
