Actor and comedian Jamie Foxx, 58, is discussing a severe health crisis he faced in 2023 that doctors said left him with little chance of survival. He described the incident as a brain bleed that led to a stroke.
In an interview that aired Monday on Good Morning America, Foxx told ABC News' Will Reeve, "Man, I almost died. I was almost outta here." He learned from one of his nurses that he was among a "three percenter," meaning fewer than 3% of people with his condition survive.
Foxx credited his recovery to his support system of friends and family. He recalled waking up during his recovery and the importance of how people are remembered after they are gone.
Following medical treatment and rehabilitation, Foxx has returned to comedy with his new Hulu standup special, titled "Take Care of Yourself." The special was filmed in Oakland, California, where Foxx began his comedy career. His daughter, Anelise, also appears in the special, showcasing her musical talents.
"Jamie Foxx: Take Care of Yourself" premieres Wednesday on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
