Residents across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties are urged to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect until 8:00 PM PDT this evening, October 8, 2026. The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA issued this warning due to dangerously hot conditions, with coastal temperatures expected to reach 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and inland valleys soaring up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit.
The warning covers a wide area including Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County Beaches, Ventura County Inland Coast, Lake Casitas, Ojai Valley, Central Ventura County Valleys, Malibu Coast, Los Angeles County Beaches, Palos Verdes Hills, Los Angeles County Inland Coast including Downtown Los Angeles, Western Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, Eastern Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, Calabasas and Agoura Hills, Western San Fernando Valley, Eastern San Fernando Valley, Southeastern Ventura County Valleys, Santa Susana Mountains, and Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley.
Heat-related illnesses significantly increase during such extreme heat events. The NWS advises everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sun exposure, and check on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly and vulnerable. This extreme heat event is expected to continue, with a possible extension of the warning into the second week of October.
