Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Dale County: Dangerous Winds, Flooding, Tornadoes Expected
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Dale County, including Ozark and Fort Rucker, with dangerous winds, major flooding, and several tornadoes expected; residents must complete preparations and seek safe shelter immediately.
DALE COUNTY — A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Dale County, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL. The warning is in effect until October 9, 2026, at 4:30 PM UTC. Residents in Ozark and Fort Rucker are urged to complete all preparations for dangerous conditions, including potential strong tropical storm force winds, major flooding, and several tornadoes.
Significant impacts are anticipated from peak wind gusts of 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, and a potential for sustained winds of 58 to 73 mph. Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Expect potential damage to roofing, siding, mobile homes, and trees. Roads may become impassable due to debris, and scattered power and communications outages are likely.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches expected, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and flood waters could enter structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, possibly intense, tornadoes. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be prepared to shelter quickly if one is issued. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, including roofs torn off, mobile homes demolished, and widespread power loss.
