Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Ozark, Fort Rucker; Prepare for Immediate Impact
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Ozark and Fort Rucker until 9:30 AM EDT today, with dangerous winds, major flooding, and several tornadoes possible. Residents must complete preparations immediately and move to safe shelter.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Ozark and Fort Rucker, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. The warning was issued on October 9 at 5:17 AM EDT and is set to expire at 1:30 PM UTC (9:30 AM EDT) today. Residents are advised to complete all remaining efforts to protect life and property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, but warns of a potential for dangerous winds of 58 to 73 mph. Significant impacts are expected, including damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings, potential window and door failures, and mobile homes being damaged. Unsecured objects may become dangerous projectiles. Several large trees may be snapped or uprooted, leading to impassable roads and scattered power and communications outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to major rainfall flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may rapidly overflow, and floodwaters could enter numerous structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats are urged to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee and Alabama Emergency Management Agency.
