A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Eastern Orleans Parish, specifically Lake Catherine, effective immediately as of October 7 at 1:00 PM CDT by the National Weather Service in New Orleans. Residents should prepare for hazardous wind, potential life-threatening storm surge, and localized flooding.

Wind speeds are forecast between 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Property protection efforts should be underway now. Act to complete preparations before winds become hazardous. Damage to porches, awnings, carports, and sheds is possible, and unsecured lightweight objects could be blown about. Expect potential scattered power and communications outages.

A life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Storm surge flooding preparations should be underway. Residents in surge-prone areas should assemble disaster supplies and know their evacuation route. Leave if evacuation orders are given for your area.

Localized flooding from 1-3 inches of rain, with higher amounts possible, is also anticipated. Emergency plans should include potential localized flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and additional safety guidelines, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency.
