A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Eastern Orleans, including Lake Catherine, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA, issued the watch today, October 7, at 10:12 AM CDT. This means life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland is possible within the next 48 hours.

Residents in affected areas, particularly around Venetian Isles and Lake Catherine, should prepare for significant storm surge flooding of 3-5 feet above ground. Evacuation orders may be issued. Assemble disaster supplies and know your evacuation route. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately. Failure to heed evacuation orders may result in loss of life.

A Tropical Storm Watch is also in effect, with potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force and secure any loose outdoor objects. Limited power and communications outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. The storm surge window of concern is from Friday morning until Saturday morning.

Localized flooding from 1-3 inches of rain is also possible. Monitor flood watches and warnings. For more information, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency.
