A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Eastern Orleans, including Lake Catherine, effective immediately by the National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans, LA. This watch indicates that tropical storm-force winds and life-threatening storm surge are possible within the next 48 hours.

Residents in Eastern Orleans, particularly those in surge-prone areas like Lake Catherine, should prepare for significant storm surge. The NWS forecasts a potential for 3-5 feet of inundation above ground, with a window of concern from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation orders may be issued; failure to evacuate could result in loss of life.

Peak wind forecasts are 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Some large tree limbs may break, and scattered power and communications outages are possible.

Localized flooding from 1-3 inches of rain is also anticipated. Emergency plans should include potential for localized flooding. Stay informed and heed any flood watches and warnings.
