Dangerous Rip Currents Expected at Onslow County Beaches Today
Dangerous rip currents are expected at Onslow County beaches today, September 25, from 8:00 AM EDT through Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Onslow County beachgoers are advised to exercise extreme caution today, Friday, September 25, due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City NC. Dangerous rip currents are expected from 8:00 AM EDT through Friday evening.
This advisory affects all Onslow County beaches. Rip currents pose a life-threatening risk, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper waters.
The NWS indicates that the strongest rip currents are most likely to occur a couple of hours around low tide, which is expected around 1:20 PM today. The Beach Hazards Statement is effective from 4:42 AM EDT until 8:00 PM EDT today, September 25.
If caught in a rip current, remain calm. Swim parallel to the shoreline. If you become tired, float or tread water until you are out of the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
