Dangerous Rip Currents Expected for Coastal Onslow Through Friday Evening
A Beach Hazards Statement for dangerous rip currents is in effect for Coastal Onslow beaches from 8 AM EDT Friday through Friday evening, issued by the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC.
Coastal Onslow residents and visitors are advised of a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City NC, indicating dangerous rip currents. This statement is effective from 8 AM EDT Friday, September 25th, and continues through Friday evening.
The affected area specifically covers Onslow County beaches. Rip currents have the potential to sweep even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper waters, posing a significant risk. The NWS highlights that the most probable time for strong rip currents will be a couple of hours on either side of low tide, which is predicted around 1:20 PM on Friday.
In the event you are caught in a rip current, remain calm. The NWS advises swimming in a direction parallel to the shoreline. If you become fatigued, float or tread water until you can escape the current. If you are unable to break free, face the shore and signal for help by calling out or waving.
