Dangerous Rip Currents Expected at Onslow County Beaches Today
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for Onslow County beaches until 8 PM EDT today, September 25, due to dangerous rip currents; beachgoers should be aware of safety instructions from the National Weather Service.
Beachgoers in Onslow County are advised of a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City NC, effective until 8:00 PM EDT this evening, September 25.
Dangerous rip currents are expected at all Onslow County beaches. These currents can swiftly carry even skilled swimmers away from the shore into deeper water, posing a serious threat.
The NWS indicates that the strongest rip currents are most likely to occur a couple of hours around low tide, which is expected at approximately 1:20 PM today. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, remain calm. Swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If fatigue sets in, float or tread water until you are able to get out of the rip current. If escape is not possible, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
