A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Northern Jackson, effective immediately, by the NWS New Orleans LA. This warning, issued October 9 at 4:00 PM CDT, affects residents in Wade, Vancleave, and Escatawpa.
Residents in these areas should complete all remaining efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before wind becomes hazardous. Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but there is a potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including potential damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect many large tree limbs to break and scattered power and communications outages.
While no additional significant rainfall is forecast, emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding from heavy rain. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt several evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected at this time. However, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed of the latest forecast changes.
