An Extreme Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Southern Jackson, effective immediately as of 10:02 AM CDT today, October 9, by the National Weather Service in New Orleans. This warning impacts Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, St. Martin, Gautier, and Moss Point, and is set to expire at 6:15 PM CDT.
Life-threatening storm surge of 3 to 5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Residents in affected areas should shelter against this life-threatening surge; flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Winds are forecast to reach 25-35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Complete any remaining property protection efforts as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Hazardous driving conditions are expected, especially on bridges and elevated roadways.
Moderate flooding from an additional 1 inch of rain is also expected. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected.
