Storm Surge Warning Issued for Southern Jackson; Life-Threatening Flooding Possible

A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Southern Jackson, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans, LA, as of 4:00 PM CDT today, October 9. This warning is for Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, St. Martin, Gautier, and Moss Point, and is in effect through Saturday morning.
Life-threatening storm surge is possible, with peak inundation potentially reaching 3-5 feet above ground in surge-prone areas. Residents in these areas should shelter against life-threatening storm surge. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.
Winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. Plan for hazardous winds of equivalent tropical storm force. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited damage to property and trees is possible, along with scattered power outages.
