StorAmerica El Monte: Make Room for Summer Storage

Make Room for Summer As the days get longer and the temperatures rise, June is the perfect time to give your home a seasonal refresh. Swapping out winter essentials for summer favorites not only helps you stay organized, but it also creates more space to enjoy everything the season has to offer. Whether you’re preparing for family barbecues, beach trips, or summer vacations, here are 10 things you should consider moving into storage this June. 1. Winter Clothing Heavy coats, sweaters, scarves, and boots can take up valuable closet space during the warmer months. Wash and pack them away in airtight containers to keep them fresh until fall returns. 2. Holiday Decorations If you still have holiday décor tucked away in a spare bedroom or garage, June is a great time to organize and store it properly. Labeling bins now will make decorating much easier later in the year. 3. Space Heaters and Electric Blankets These cold-weather essentials won’t be needed for several months. Storing them safely helps reduce clutter and keeps them protected during the off-season. 4. Bulky Bedding Comforters, flannel sheets, and extra blankets can take up a surprising amount of room. Trade them out for lighter summer bedding and store the extras until cooler weather arrives. 5. School Supplies and Dorm Items With the school year ending, many families suddenly find themselves with backpacks, textbooks, sports equipment, and dorm essentials that need a temporary home. A storage unit can help keep everything organized until the next semester. 6. Tax Documents and Seasonal Paperwork After tax season, many people are left with boxes of paperwork that they don’t need immediate access to but still want to keep safe. Organizing and storing these documents can free up office space at home. 7. Unused Indoor Furniture Planning to host summer gatherings or simply want a more open living space? Temporarily storing extra furniture pieces can make your home feel larger and more inviting. 8. Winter Sports and Recreation Gear Skis, snowboards, sleds, and other winter equipment can be bulky and difficult to store. Keeping them in storage protects your gear and frees up valuable garage space for summer activities. 9. Seasonal Home Décor Candles, heavy rugs, and winter-themed decorations can be packed away to make room for brighter, lighter summer styles. 10. Anything Standing Between You and Summer Fun Bikes, beach chairs, camping gear, and outdoor toys deserve easy access. By moving unused seasonal items into storage, you can create a more organized garage or shed and spend less time searching for what you need. Welcome Summer with a Clutter-Free Home A little organization in June can set the tone for a stress-free summer. Rotating seasonal belongings into storage helps protect your items, maximize your living space, and make room for the moments that matter most. This June, clear out the clutter and make space for sunshine, adventure, and all the memories waiting to be made. The post Make Room for Summer appeared first on StorAmerica Storage.

California WIC Adds Plant-Based Milks and Whole Grains to Food Packages

California WIC now offers more food choices that support healthy diets during pregnancy and early childhood. These options offer more variety and flexibility to meet the needs of different cultures and family preferences. See the New WIC Food Packages What’s New? More whole-grain foods, like corn masa flour, pita bread, whole wheat bagels, and whole wheat English muffins Plant-based milk options Cash value option for fruits and vegetables (fresh, frozen, or canned) instead of jarred baby foods More fruits and vegetables instead of juice Canned fish (tuna, salmon, sardines) for all families More yogurt flavors to choose from, like peach, strawberry-banana, and mango Fresh herbs can be bought using the cash value benefit for fruits and vegetables More package size options when shopping for WIC-eligible foods New! Shopping Guide Here’s a more detailed look at some of the food package changes. For more details, visit myfamily.wic.ca.gov. Update the CA WIC App to see the WIC food changes The CA WIC app will need to be updated in order to see the new WIC food changes. Check your WIC app to see when you can start shopping for your new foods. Use the food scanner to find WIC-approved items. April 2026 Food Package Change Resources Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Why are WIC foods changing? WIC is updating foods to give families more choices, healthier options, and foods that fit different cultures and diets. The California WIC App and Shopping Guide will show the new food options when they are available. Do these changes affect all WIC families? Yes! All California WIC families will see the updated foodsl. You may see new foods, new sizes, and updated amounts for some food items. Check your WIC app to see when you can start shopping for the new foods. How will I know which foods I can buy? The California WIC App will show your updated food balance. Use the food scan feature in the app to check if a food is WIC-approved and available on your food benefits. The California WIC Shopping Guide lists all the new foods and sizes available. Will I lose any of my current foods? Families will still receive healthy foods each month. Some WIC-approved foods may change, such as whole-grains and rice infant cereal, but families will also receive new foods, more choices, and flexibility with other foods. WIC no longer allows rice cereal due to concerns about heavy metal exposure. You will see other healthy infant cereal options instead, such as oatmeal, multigrain, barley, and whole wheat. Where did my juice benefits go? With the new WIC food options, families get an extra $3 per person to spend on fruits and vegetables. These foods are full of vitamins, minerals, and fiber that help keep your heart healthy, lower blood sugar, and help with digestion. Families have the option to swap the extra $3 for 64oz of juice per individual in the family receiving WIC foods. PHFE WIC participants can request to swap the $3 for juice on their WIC benefits by texting 91997. What should I do if I have trouble buying the new WIC foods at the store? If the stores have not updated their systems with the new WIC foods, speak with the manager first. If the issue is not fixed, contact the California WIC program at (800) 852-5770 or [email protected].
