Rip Current Statement Issued for Coastal Areas, Minor Flooding Expected
A Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory have been issued for coastal areas of Nassau, Flagler, St. Johns, Glynn, and Camden counties, with dangerous rip currents and minor flooding expected.
Residents and visitors in Coastal Nassau, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, Southeast Coastal St. Johns, Coastal Glynn, and Coastal Camden counties should be aware of a Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL.
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect for Southeast Georgia Beaches through late Saturday night, October 10th. Dangerous rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 5 PM EDT today, October 8th. Minor coastal flooding is expected, potentially affecting lots, parks, and roads, though only isolated road closures are anticipated. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
This Rip Current Statement is effective from 1:54 AM EDT on October 8th until 6:00 AM EDT on October 11th. The Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 5:00 PM EDT on October 8th.
