Rip Current Statement Issued: Dangerous Conditions on Local Beaches

A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Coastal Nassau, Flagler, and St. Johns counties, warning of dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding through late Saturday night, October 9th.

A Rip Current Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL, effective immediately. Residents and visitors in Coastal Nassau, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, Southeast Coastal St. Johns, Coastal Glynn, and Coastal Camden counties are advised of dangerous rip currents through late Saturday night, October 9th.

The NWS warns that rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect until 5 AM EDT Thursday, October 7th, for Southeast Georgia Beaches, with minor coastal flooding expected. This could lead to flooding of lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible.

If travel is required during the Coastal Flood Advisory, allow extra time for potential road closures. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.

For those entering the water, the NWS advises swimming near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help.
