Haverford College Professor Guangtian Ha has been arrested and charged with online harassment and intimidation, President Wendy Raymond announced Tuesday.
Ha, a professor of religion, is on administrative leave and barred from campus while legal proceedings continue. Raymond stated college representatives have contacted those targeted by the antisemitic attacks.
An indictment filed Sept. 30 in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleges Ha sent approximately 50 messages containing threatening and antisemitic language to a victim between Oct. 9, 2025, and May 20, 2026, using at least four X accounts.
Ha was on sabbatical and not teaching this academic year. Raymond expressed distress over the allegations, stating, "Any form of harassment or discrimination based on identity is unacceptable, antithetical to our values, and has no place at Haverford." She noted the accusations' proximity to the Jewish High Holidays and the third anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks. The college is offering support resources and encouraging those experiencing bias to report it.
