Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Hale County: Prepare for Winds, Flooding
Hale County, including Greensboro and Moundville, is under a Tropical Storm Watch, urging residents to prepare for hazardous winds up to 57 mph and potential moderate flooding from 2-4 inches of rain.
Hale County residents, especially those in Greensboro and Moundville, are under a Tropical Storm Watch issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, as of October 9 at 4:08 AM CDT. This watch is effective until 12:15 PM UTC today, October 9, 2026.
Residents should plan for hazardous winds of 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts potentially reaching 40 mph. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and potential power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and roads may become impassable due to debris and standing water.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and to prepare, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
