HALE COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Greensboro and Moundville, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the alert on October 8 at 10:27 PM CDT, which remains in effect until October 9 at 6:30 AM UTC.

Residents in affected areas should plan for hazardous winds and potential moderate flooding. Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for winds between 39-57 mph. Complete all remaining efforts to protect property as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding. Evacuations and rescues are possible. Consider protective actions if you are in an area vulnerable to flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, broken tree limbs, a few downed trees, and scattered power and communications outages. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues, with rivers and small streams potentially overflowing their banks. Roads may become impassable due to debris or flooding. Driving conditions will be hazardous.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
