A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Hale County, including Greensboro and Moundville, urging residents to prepare for high winds and potential flooding until 9:30 AM CDT today.

Hale County residents are urged to prepare for hazardous wind and potential flooding as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued a Tropical Storm Watch today, October 9, at 1:19 AM CDT. This watch is in effect until 9:30 AM CDT today for Greensboro and Moundville.

Wind speeds are forecast to reach 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, but there is a potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete all efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated, which may lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, and small streams may overflow their banks. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Heed all flood watches and warnings to avoid serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS does not anticipate a tornado threat at this time. For more information and resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
