URGENT: Storm Surge Warning Issued for Southern Jackson
A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Southern Jackson, including Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, St. Martin, Gautier, and Moss Point, with life-threatening storm surge and winds possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Southern Jackson, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service New Orleans, LA. This warning applies to the communities of Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, St. Martin, Gautier, and Moss Point.
Residents in these areas are advised to leave immediately if evacuation orders are given. Life-threatening storm surge flooding of greater than 6 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Damage to buildings is expected, with some structures potentially washing away.
In addition to storm surge, potential for life-threatening wind of equivalent Category 1 or 2 hurricane force is forecast, with peak winds of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph. Extensive roof damage, tree uprooting, and widespread power outages are anticipated. Remaining efforts to protect life and property should be urgently completed. Move to safe shelter before the wind becomes hazardous.
Moderate flooding rain is also expected, with 3-6 inches of rainfall possible, and localized higher amounts. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
