Residents in Northern Jackson, including Wade, Vancleave, and Escatawpa, must finalize preparations immediately as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued. The National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA, issued this warning today, October 8, 2026, at 10:01 AM CDT, effective until 6:15 PM UTC.
Dangerous winds are expected, with peak forecasts of 15-25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. There is potential for winds of 58 to 73 mph. Residents should move to safe shelter as soon as possible before hazardous winds begin. Significant damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings is possible, and unsecured objects could become dangerous projectiles. Several trees may be snapped or uprooted, potentially causing impassable roads due to debris and scattered power outages.
Moderate flooding rain is also anticipated, with 3-6 inches of rainfall expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Emergency plans should account for moderate flooding, as evacuations and rescues may be necessary. Rivers and tributaries could swell, leading to localized overflows and hazardous driving conditions. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and ongoing updates, visit msema.org.
