At a Special Meeting on January 27, 2026 the City Council appointed Mr. Roosevelt Brooks as the new City Clerk / Treasurer for the City of Monticello!We are excited to work with Roosevelt and we thank everyone who submitted applications for the position.

Updates on The Monticello Ecological Park

Great News! We recently received some of the funding we have been waiting for to begin repairs on the Ecological Park! We are still awaiting some FEMA funds, but we will be able to get moving forward! Work will begin first on the Pavillion and Restrooms, then the Boardwalk and Bridges. We know you have been waiting for the park to be back in good shape, and we have been hard at work trying to make that happen. We will keep you updated!

Governor DeSantis Joins us on the Courthouse Steps

On July 2, 2025, at a little past 9:00 a.m., Governor Ron DeSantis and Secretary of State Cord Byrd joined many citizens of Monticello/Jefferson County on the south steps of the Jefferson County Courthouse in order to unveil both a gorgeous statue of Thomas Jefferson and the new Florida logo intended to celebrate Florida during the upcoming year. Next year, 2026, the United States will celebrate its 250th birthday, and the governor intends to make this year a year of remembering our history and anticipating continued success as a nation. Folks bearing flags and dressed in patriotic garb surrounded the courthouse steps and focused intently on the message brought to us by our leaders. The excitement was palpable and the humidity was of no concern as we heard Governor DeSantis recall the times during which our founding fathers lived. Being willing to sacrifice and fight for the freedom we so often take for granted today, the people of the Revolutionary Era deserve recognition and remembrance, despite the fact that they, like all of us, were imperfect people. When you have a few spare moments, it might be a fun idea to stop by the courthouse and see the statue of Thomas Jefferson that now graces the south side of the historic building that has become the iconic center of our town and county.

State Awards $14.16M to the City of Monticello for Wastewater Infrastructure

The City applied for funding in 2025 to rehab and update our Wastewater Collection System. Our application was approved and we were awarded $14.16M through the Community Development Block Grant program from the State of Florida. This is huge for Monticello and will help us to better serve our community and protect our natural environment.

You may sign up for E-Bill by clicking the green "Pay Your Bill Now" button on the right and bottom of this page. Online Bill Payment If paying your Water Utility Bill Online just click the green "Pay Your Bill Now" button. You should have your latest bill handy to register your account. Be sure to enter all numbers - even leading zeros. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. There is a convenience fee of 2.55% + $1.00 to make payments via web or phone. Payment by Phone If you know your account number and wish to use a credit or debit card to pay by telephone, the phone number 850-347-5392. The phone payment system is available in both English and Spanish and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. If you need assistance in paying a bill by telephone and wish to speak directly with Utility Department staff, please call 850-342-0292 during regular office hours. Payment By Mail If paying by check or money order through the mail, please send all payments with your payment coupon. To avoid late fees, please mail your payment so that it will be received at City Hall before the tenth day of the month. Automatic Bank Draft Direct Pay The worry-free way to pay your bill. With this service, the amount of your monthly bill is automatically deducted from your bank account and credited to your utility account. There is no set-up fee or charge associated with this method of payment. To set up Automated Bank Draft, request an Authorization for Direct Payment of Utility Bill from [email protected] and drop it off or mail it to our office, along with a voided check. Payment Drop-Off Location You may pay your bill in person at our office address. We accept cash, check, or money orders, debit and credit cards. There is a fee for use of a debit or credit card. There is a drop box available for check or money order payments after hours. Payment Through Financial Institution Online Bill Payer Many financial institutions such as major banks offer their customers the ability to pay their bills via an online bill payment service (through your bank's website). Normally, these services debit the customer's checking or savings account to pay the bill. Depending on the financial institution, they may or may not charge a fee for the service. The Monticello City Council is composed of five elected city-wide representatives. The Mayor position is selected by the Council Members each January. We are honored to have John Jones serve as Mayor for 2026. Vice-mayor for the year is Katrina Richardson. Council Members serve four-year, staggered terms. Staggering the terms of council members helps ensure continuity of the Council and allows for more seasoned members to continue to serve as newer members are elected into the roles. Minority and Women Business Enterprises (M/WBE) - Supplier Diversity

Minority and Women Business Enterprises (M/WBE) (Supplier Diversity) The City of Monticello is committed to supplier diversity in the performance of all contracts associated with Federal and State funding projects. For projects funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the City and the Bidder/Contractor are required to make good faith efforts to encourage the participation of minority owned and small business enterprises in accordance with applicable laws. The City of Monticello will maintain a list of certified minority-and women-owned businesses that operate in its region. The City shall use this list to solicit businesses to bid on CDBG-funded activities and shall provide a copy of the list to prime contractors to use when they hire subcontractors. The Bidder/Contractor will be required to submit documentation to reflect the affirmative action steps taken to utilize certified minority-and women-owned businesses in the work and the intended use of these companies in the work. Documentation shall include evidence that qualified minority and women's businesses have been solicited for subcontracting work and/or supplies, as may be needed to complete the work. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator and Information

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), the City of Monticello will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities. Employment: The City of Monticello does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA. Effective Communication: The City of Monticello will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communications for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in City of Monticello programs, services, and activities, including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing or vision impairments. Modifications to Policies and Procedures: The City of Monticello will make all reasonable modifications to policies or procedures to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services and activities. Annual Budget and Financial Reports

Annual Budget and Financial Reports City budgets are presented, re-evaluated and voted on annually. The City's fiscal year runs from October 1st to September 30th. The city's budget planning process begins in June, with tentative budget and final budget hearings held in September of each, after notice to all city property owners. The city's financial statements are published each year after the conclusion of the fiscal year. The city's current adopted budget and audit report can be found below.
