A new Forever stamp honoring the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is available for purchase. The U.S. Postal Service announced the stamp, featuring an oil painting by Michael J. Deas based on a 2015 photograph by Philip Bermingham, will go on sale. The artwork depicts Ginsburg in her judicial robe and signature collar. Ethel Kessler designed the stamp.

Ginsburg served as an associate justice for 27 years, becoming a legal icon and champion of gender equality. Born in Brooklyn in 1933, she graduated at the top of her class from Columbia Law School. She taught civil procedure and gender discrimination law at Rutgers and Columbia universities.

As an advocate, Ginsburg argued landmark cases before the Supreme Court, challenging laws that discriminated against women. President Jimmy Carter appointed her to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 1980. President Bill Clinton appointed her to the Supreme Court in 1993, where she served until her death in 2020.

The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Forever stamp will always hold the value of the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.

Residents can find the stamp at local post offices in Monroe County.
