A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Mobile Coastal areas, including Grand Bay, Dauphin Island, and Bayou La Batre, effective immediately as of October 9 at 1:02 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. This warning is in effect until 9:15 PM UTC today.
Residents in these areas should shelter against life-threatening storm surge, with a potential for 3-5 feet above ground inundation through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete; evacuees should be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.
Dangerous wind conditions are also unfolding, with peak wind forecasts of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 65 mph, with a potential for 58 to 73 mph winds. Last-minute efforts to protect life and property should now be complete. The area remains subject to significant wind damage. Shelter from dangerous wind immediately.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rainfall expected. Moderate flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
