Vidor Community Mourns Passing of Lena Mae Fountain Midkiff, 89, Longtime Resident

The Vidor community mourns the passing of Lena Mae Fountain Midkiff, a resident for 61 years, who died on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the age of 89. Midkiff passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Castroville, Texas.

Midkiff was born in Merryville, Louisiana. She established deep roots in Vidor, dedicating her life as a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She cherished her family, especially her seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Midkiff is survived by her daughters, Linda Cryer of Leesville, Louisiana, and Betty Holt of Castroville, Texas. She also leaves behind her sister, Ruby Gidney of DeRidder, Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Audie Midkiff, Jr.; her parents, Jonathan Mal Fountain and Mae Nancy Marshall Fountain; her sister, Wanda Faye Higginbotham; her brother, Bruce Wayne Fountain; her daughter, Rita Hughes; her sons, Audie Wayne Midkiff and James Alan Midkiff; and her grandson, Bradley Cryer.

Visitation for Midkiff was held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with immediate family attending at 5 PM and friends at 6 PM. Funeral services took place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 10 AM in Vidor. Burial followed at 2 PM at Miller Cemetery in Cottonwood Community, Leesville, Louisiana.
