HARRIS AND MUSCOGEE COUNTIES, GA – Residents are advised to seek shelter immediately due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, effective until 2:30 AM EDT on October 10, 2026.

At 1:22 AM EDT, heavy rain and tropical storm-force wind gusts were reported near Green Island Hills, impacting the Columbus area. The NWS indicates a hazard of 40 to 50 mph winds and an enhanced risk for downed trees.

Radar indicated these conditions. Residents can expect minor damage to tree limbs and the blowing around of light, unsecured objects. The NWS warns that trees may down more easily due to already wet soil from previous rainfall.

Affected locations include Columbus, Bibb City, Goat Rock Lake, Laurel Hills, Green Island Hills, Vista Terrace, Cataula, Columbus Metropolitan Airport, Rose Hill, Mountain Hill, Benning Hills, Avondale, Benning Park, Fortson, Mulberry Grove, Saint Marys Hills, Edgewood, Flat Rock, Highland Park, and Sand Hill.

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. The Special Weather Statement is set to expire at 2:30 AM EDT.
