A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Muscogee County, including Columbus, effective immediately as of October 9 at 4:43 AM EDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA. Residents should act now to complete preparations for hazardous wind, potential moderate flooding, and several possible tornadoes.
Peak winds are forecast between 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including unsecured objects blowing about, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding could lead to evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and some roads may become impassable.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter.
