Miramar Police arrested Shaquille Palmer on felony grand theft charges hours after authorities mistakenly arrested another man in connection with the theft of luxury handbags. Shaquille Grant was arrested Thursday, but his attorney told a judge Grant was unaware of the case. Detectives later admitted an error on a "not in custody" form, stemming from an interview where Palmer allegedly provided a false surname, led to Grant's incorrect arrest. Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss stated the error involved the name on the form, which should have identified a different individual. The Miramar Police Department, in coordination with the Broward Sheriff's Office and State Attorney's Office, expedited Grant's release later that night. "Obviously there was a mistake made. We are trying to figure out how the mistake was made," Moss said. "We can only apologize and work to make sure that we make the system better so that these things don’t happen." Grant was seen leaving the Broward County Jail a free man later that evening.

Stormy Wellington, the victim and a Miramar-based social media influencer, expressed dismay that an innocent man had been arrested. Wellington reported in September that her stylist stole five luxury purses and a Chanel water bottle from her home in August. "The wrong person was arrested unfortunately. My heart goes out to him, I saw him yesterday, walking, his head was down, my heart hurts for him," she told reporters. Wellington recognized Palmer in images of him in custody and believes he intentionally provided a false name.
