Strong Thunderstorm Warning: Gusts up to 50 mph, Pea-Size Hail Expected
A strong thunderstorm with wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea-size hail is expected in Cave Creek/New River, Rio Verde/Salt River, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, Tonto Basin, and Mazatzal Mountains, effective until 6:30 PM MST.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix, AZ, urging residents in Cave Creek/New River, Rio Verde/Salt River, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, Tonto Basin, and the Mazatzal Mountains to monitor weather conditions closely.
A strong thunderstorm was detected by Doppler radar at 5:59 PM MST today, September 24, near Four Peaks, approximately 6 miles southeast of Ballantine Trailhead. The storm is moving west at 25 mph and is expected to bring wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea-size hail.
Impacts from this storm may include downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include Round Valley, Sunflower, Sycamore Creek, Punkin Center, Tonto Basin, Four Peaks, Rio Verde, and Fort McDowell.
This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and expires at 6:30 PM MST today, September 24. Residents in the affected areas should stay alert for threatening weather conditions and take necessary precautions to secure outdoor items.
