LAUDERDALE COUNTY – Residents in Lauderdale County are urged to finalize preparations immediately as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) Jackson MS issued this warning on October 9 at 10:31 PM CDT, effective until October 10 at 6:45 AM UTC.

Forecasters anticipate hazardous winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break, and some trees to snap or uproot. Roads may become impassable due to debris, and scattered power and communications outages are possible.

In addition to wind, Lauderdale County can expect approximately 1 inch of additional rainfall, posing a significant threat for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should account for potential evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and floodwaters could enter structures. Hazardous driving conditions are expected in low-lying areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

The NWS currently indicates an unfavorable situation for tornadoes, with none expected. However, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Residents should act now to complete preparations before the wind becomes hazardous and remain informed of any forecast changes.
