Heat Advisory Issued for San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Foothills Until 10 PM Tonight
A Heat Advisory has been issued for the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills, with temperatures up to 101 degrees expected until 10 PM PDT tonight, posing a risk of heat-related illnesses.
Residents across the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills should take precautions against high temperatures today. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Hanford, CA, has issued a Heat Advisory effective immediately until 10:00 PM PDT tonight, October 8, 2026.
High temperatures are expected to reach up to 101 degrees, with overnight lows potentially remaining between 70 and 75 degrees in the Sierra and Coastal Range Foothills. This heat poses a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for individuals without effective cooling or hydration.
Affected areas include: West Side Mountains north of 198, Los Banos - Dos Palos, Merced - Madera - Mendota, Planada - Le Grand - Snelling, Coalinga - Avenal, West Side of Fresno and Kings Counties, Caruthers - San Joaquin - Selma, Fresno-Clovis, West Side Mountains South of 198, Buttonwillow - Lost Hills - I5, Delano-Wasco-Shafter, Hanford - Corcoran - Lemoore, Visalia - Porterville - Reedley, Buena Vista, Bakersfield, Southeast San Joaquin Valley, South End San Joaquin Valley, Mariposa Madera Foothills, Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra, Fresno-Tulare Foothills, Fresno-Tulare Lower Sierra, South End Sierra Foothills, and South End of the Lower Sierra.
The NWS advises everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors to ensure their safety during this period of elevated heat.
