City of Concordia Reminds Residents of Spring Yard Maintenance
🌱 Spring Yard Maintenance Reminder 🌱 Spring has arrived in Concordia! Trees are leafing out, flowers are blooming, gardens are being planted, and grass is growing quickly. The City of Concordia would like to remind residents to keep lawns and properties properly maintained throughout the season. “Overall, Concordia residents do a wonderful job caring for their properties,” said City Manager Amy Lange. “Community pride is evident across our neighborhoods, and it’s great to see the color and beauty that residents bring to their landscapes. However, each year some properties fall behind on maintenance, and vegetation can quickly become overgrown. If you are experiencing equipment issues, we encourage you to contact a local repair shop, lawn care contractor, or even ask a neighbor for assistance. Likewise, if you see someone in need, please consider lending a helping hand. Together, we can keep our community healthy and beautiful.” City staff regularly monitor neighborhoods during the spring and summer months for nuisance concerns. Nuisances may include, but are not limited to:✔ Grass and weeds over 12 inches in height✔ Inoperable vehicles✔ Excessive trash or debris✔ Stagnant water✔ Strong or unpleasant odors According to City Code Sections 13-101 through 13-103, vegetation exceeding 12 inches is considered a nuisance and may be subject to enforcement. The abatement process begins with a courtesy notice. If the issue is not resolved, City crews may perform the work at a cost of $100 per hour plus a $100 administrative fee, with expenses billed to the property owner. If you need to report a nuisance concern, please contact City Hall at (785) 243-2670. Thank you for helping keep Concordia a clean, safe, and welcoming community!

Please pay special attention to what items are accepted and when in order for the clean-up to run smoothly. “The citywide cleanup has continued to be a fantastic way for citizens to tackle their to-do list. I hope our citizens take advantage of this yearly event,” says Concordia Mayor Ashley Hutchinson. In recognition of National Volunteer Week, April 19th through the 24th, residents are encouraged to lend a helping hand to neighbors who may need assistance preparing items for pickup. This annual event is a great opportunity to give back and support the Concordia community. Concordia residents are encouraged to place items at their curbs on April 20th through April 27th. Meet Concordia's New Building Inspector
👷♂️ Staff Introduction — Meet Our New Building Inspector Hi, I’m Tim Jessup, the Building Inspector for the City of Concordia. In this role, I help ensure that homes, businesses, and public buildings throughout our community remain safe, well-maintained, and compliant with city building codes. I work closely with property owners, contractors, and city departments to answer questions, perform inspections, and address building-related concerns. My goal is to help protect our residents while supporting a safe and thriving Concordia. If you have questions about building safety, permits, or inspections, I’m always happy to serve as a resource for our community. Helpful Information from the Building Inspector Why Permits Matter What we want residents to know:Building permits are more than paperwork. They are an important form of protection. Permits help ensure construction work is completed safely, correctly, and in compliance with city codes. They protect homeowners by confirming that projects meet minimum safety standards and can help prevent costly issues in the future, particularly when selling or insuring a property. Permits also allow the City to maintain accurate records of property improvements and help ensure that structures and utilities remain safe for the entire community. We’re a Resource, Not Just an Inspector What we want residents to know:Contacting the Building Inspector early in the planning process can save both time and money. Whether you are planning a project, hiring a contractor, or simply having questions, reaching out before work begins can help prevent delays, unexpected corrections, or compliance issues. The goal of the Building Inspection Department is to work collaboratively with residents and contractors to support safe, successful projects throughout Concordia.
