Heat Advisory Issued for Central Valley: Take Precautions Through Thursday
A Heat Advisory is in effect for the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills until Thursday, October 8, at 10:00 PM PDT, with temperatures up to 101 degrees expected; residents should drink fluids, stay cool, and check on neighbors.
Residents across the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills are advised to take precautions as a Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Hanford, CA. This advisory is in effect from Wednesday, October 7, at 4:32 PM PDT, until Thursday, October 8, at 10:00 PM PDT.
High temperatures are expected to reach up to 101 degrees Fahrenheit. Overnight lows in the Sierra and Coastal Range Foothills, particularly where the thermal belt is strongest, are anticipated to remain between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. These conditions pose a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses for many individuals, especially those without adequate cooling or hydration.
Affected areas include: West Side Mountains north of 198, Los Banos - Dos Palos, Merced - Madera - Mendota, Planada - Le Grand - Snelling, Coalinga - Avenal, West Side of Fresno and Kings Counties, Caruthers - San Joaquin - Selma, Fresno-Clovis, West Side Mountains South of 198, Buttonwillow - Lost Hills - I5, Delano-Wasco-Shafter, Hanford - Corcoran - Lemoore, Visalia - Porterville - Reedley, Buena Vista, Bakersfield, Southeast San Joaquin Valley, South End San Joaquin Valley, Mariposa Madera Foothills, Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra, Fresno-Tulare Foothills, Fresno-Tulare Lower Sierra, South End Sierra Foothills, and South End of the Lower Sierra.
The NWS strongly recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, avoiding direct sun exposure, and checking on relatives and neighbors to ensure their safety during this period of elevated heat.
