A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for central and southwest Montana, warning of 2-8 inches of snow and winds up to 50 mph from this afternoon through Monday morning, potentially causing difficult travel and power outages.
HELENA, MT – Residents in the Helena Valley, Canyon Ferry Area, Missouri Headwaters, Madison River Valley, Gallatin Valley, Northwest Beaverhead County, Beaverhead and Western Madison below 6000ft, Ruby Mountains and Southern Beaverhead Mountains, and Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains should prepare for significant winter weather.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, effective from 4:13 PM MDT today, October 10, until 6:00 AM MDT Monday, October 12. Snow is expected, with total accumulations of 2 to 5 inches in lower elevations and 5 to 8 inches in the mountains. Locally higher amounts are possible. Winds are forecast to gust as high as 50 mph.
Travel could become difficult due to these conditions. The combination of gusty winds and wet, heavy snow may bring down tree branches, leading to isolated power outages. Snowfall on roadways, particularly at lower elevations, is anticipated primarily from this evening through late morning on Monday.
The NWS advises motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.
