Winter Weather Advisory Issued: Snow and High Winds Expected

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for central and southwest Montana from tonight until Monday morning, with snow accumulations of 2-8 inches and wind gusts up to 40 mph expected, potentially impacting travel and causing power outages.

Residents in the Helena Valley, Canyon Ferry Area, Missouri Headwaters, Madison River Valley, Gallatin Valley, Northwest Beaverhead County, Beaverhead and Western Madison below 6000ft, Ruby Mountains and Southern Beaverhead Mountains, and Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains are advised to prepare for winter weather conditions. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Great Falls, MT, effective from 6 PM this evening, October 10, until 6 AM MDT Monday, October 12.

Snow is expected, with total accumulations of 2 to 5 inches across lower elevations and 5 to 8 inches in the mountains. Locally higher amounts are possible. Winds are forecast to gust as high as 40 mph. These conditions may make travel difficult, and the combination of gusty winds and heavy, wet snow could lead to downed tree branches and isolated power outages. Snowfall on non-grassy surfaces at lower elevations is expected mainly between the evening and late morning hours.

The National Weather Service advises slowing down and using caution while traveling. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.
