Luverne Submits Water Service Line Inventory to EPA
The City of Luverne has submitted its water service line inventory to the Environmental Protection Agency, meeting a federal deadline to identify lead exposure risks in the municipal water system.
The Water Department identified some service lines with unknown materials and will continue investigating those properties through "potholing"—excavating small sections of the boulevard to visually inspect underground pipes. The city will restore all excavation sites to their original condition.
Property owners with lead or galvanized service lines will receive notification letters from the city. Residents can view the complete inventory and replacement plan details at www.cityofluverne.org/publicnotices.
Lead service lines can leach lead into drinking water under certain conditions. Galvanized pipes connected to lead lines can also retain lead particles. Property owners with questions should contact the Luverne Water Department.
