Tropical Storm Warning Issued for George County; Prepare for Hazardous Winds

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for George County, including Lucedale, effective immediately by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. This warning is in effect until 6:00 PM CDT today, October 9, 2026. Residents should finalize all preparations to protect property and move to safe shelter as soon as possible.

Peak wind gusts of up to 50 mph are expected. Potential impacts include damage to carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs and some downed trees. Scattered power and communications outages are possible, and some roads may become impassable due to debris. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated on bridges and elevated roadways.

Moderate flooding from heavy rainfall is also possible, with an additional 1 inch of rain forecast. This could lead to swollen rivers and creeks, and localized flooding in low-lying areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings issued by local authorities.
