A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Lowndes County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 12:59 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL. This watch includes Fort Deposit and Hayneville, and advises residents to prepare for severe weather conditions.

Tropical storm force winds, with peak gusts up to 75 mph, are expected from Friday evening through Saturday morning. Residents should complete all property protection efforts as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential impacts include damage to unanchored structures, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Moderate flooding from 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is possible. Be prepared for potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Additionally, conditions are favorable for a few tornadoes. Have an emergency plan that includes tornado preparedness. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. The Tropical Storm Watch expires October 8 at 9:00 PM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
