Residents of Lowndes County, particularly those in Fort Deposit and Hayneville, need to take immediate action as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective from October 9 at 1:19 AM CDT until 9:30 AM CDT. This warning indicates severe conditions are expected.

Tropical Storm force winds of 35-45 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, are forecast from this evening until Saturday morning. Property protection efforts should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Limited damage to structures and trees, along with scattered power outages, are possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Moderate flooding from 1-3 inches of rain (with locally higher amounts) is anticipated, potentially causing evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

A few tornadoes are possible. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. If your current shelter is vulnerable to tornadoes, relocate to a safer location before hazardous weather arrives. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
