A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Lowndes County, including Fort Deposit and Hayneville, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning today, October 8, at 4:07 PM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours, with peak winds of 45-55 mph and gusts up to 75 mph anticipated from Friday evening until Saturday morning.

Residents are advised to complete all remaining efforts to protect life and property as soon as possible. Prepare for significant wind damage, including potential damage to roofing, siding, mobile homes, and trees. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. Moderate rainfall flooding is anticipated, which may lead to evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.

The warning is effective until October 9, 2026, at 12:15 AM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
